서 있는 인물은, 말하자면 요즘식 “성장 서사”의 아이콘이다. 어디에도 뿌리내릴 흙도, 물을 줄 화분도 없는데, 분홍 물뿌리개를 꼭 쥔 채 자기 자신을 키우라고 요구받는다.
스스로를 키우라는 주문은 과연 해방인지, 아니면 조금 더 효율적으로 소모되기 위한 예의 바른 명령인가

The standing figure is, so to speak, an icon of today’s “growth narrative.” There is no soil anywhere to take root in, no flowerpot to water, yet they are asked to grow themself while clutching a pink watering can.

Is this injunction to “grow yourself” truly a form of liberation, or merely a polite command to be used up a little more efficiently?

I pretended I didn’t need to breathe

because looking beautiful meant being alive.

숨을 쉬지 않아도 괜찮은 척,

예뻐 보이면 살아 있는 거라 믿었으니까.

The dress conceals the truth, the mask silences the questions.

드레스는 진실을 감추고,

마스크는 질문을 막는다.

You call me strange, and I believe you’re wrong.

너는 나를 이상하다고 말하고,

나는 네가 틀렸다고 믿는다.

We define each other, but never truly see.

우린 서로를 정의하면서,

서로를 보지 않는다.

Pride was my defense.

Prejudice, your weapon.

오만은 나의 방어였고,

편견은 너의 무기였다.
